Porsche spent years being told a four-door car did not belong in the range, then built one that handles better than most coupés. The Panamera is long, low and genuinely quick, but the steering and chassis feel come straight from the sports car side of the company. On the mountain road to Ronda it flatters the driver in a way no saloon has any right to.
At the same time it does the boring things well. Four adults sit comfortably, the hatchback boot takes real luggage, and the ride quality over three hours on the AP-7 is closer to a Mercedes S-Class than to a 911. That combination is exactly what a week on the Costa del Sol tends to require.
