Not every trip to the Costa del Sol calls for a supercar. If you are travelling with children, grandparents or a group of friends, what matters is seats, boot space and fuel consumption — and on all three the Sorento is the strongest option we have alongside the Mercedes V-Class.
Seven seats mean a family of six travels in one car rather than two, which halves the delivery fee and removes the need to drive in convoy on the A-7. The diesel engine returns consumption that no petrol SUV in the fleet approaches, which matters when the week includes daily runs to the beach, Málaga and back.
Against the Mercedes V-Class at €500, the Sorento is €300 cheaper per day and easier to park, but has one fewer seat and less luggage room with all rows in use. For six people it is the better value; for eight, the V-Class is the only option.
